Endeavour is the Inspector Morse prequel series. Well constructed mysteries, just the right length, nice writing, 60s decor and fashion, with lots of beautiful Oxford.

Inspector Thursday, on the roof of a college, calmly smoking his pipe, facing down the psychopathic serial killer:

"I've looked into the eyes of worse than you. People who've done real atrocities. And they were sane. Next to them, you're nothing more than a second-rate freak show."
